UnITe 2019 is proud to welcome author, technical consultant, journalist and U of T alumnus Clive Thompson as this year’s keynote speaker.
Author, contributing writer for The New York Times Magazine and Wired columnist, tech consultant for CBC’s Q radio program.
Clive Thompson, one of today’s most prominent technology writers, is a long-time contributing writer for The New York Times Magazine, a columnist for Wired and author of two books: Smarter Than You Think: How Technology is Changing Our Minds for the Better (2014) and Coders: The Making of a New Tribe and the Remaking of the World (2019). He is also the technology consultant for CBC’s Q radio program.
A University of Toronto alumnus, Thompson is respected for his ability to go beyond the headlines to harness the insights of science, literature, history and philosophy. He writes not only about inventors, but also about how everyday people use technology — often quite unpredictably. His latest book, Coders, continues Thompson’s exploration into the intersections of technology and the human experience. It is an immersive anthropological look at computer programmers: where they come from, how they think, what makes for greatness in their world and what should give us pause.
